What It’s Like To Be A Junior Buyer with Ellie Yeomans

Would you like a career in retail buying? Ellie, a graduate from July 2023 landed a fantastic role at Bremont shortly after graduating.

So many of our graduates end up in great first job roles, and Ellie is no exception! We were delighted to catch up with her to hear all about what it’s like to work as a Junior Buyer for a luxury watch brand..

What is your current job role title, company name and sector, and where are you working in terms of location?

I’m a Junior Buyer for Bremont Watch Company, located in Henley.

Describe a typical day in your position for us.

I usually start my morning by checking on my emails and responding to any urgent queries from suppliers and the internal product and design team. After this my day is very varied, but some of my responsibilities include placing orders, procurement admin, sitting in on product meetings, negotiating with suppliers and working closely with the military and special projects team to create custom pieces.

What do you love most about your role?

I have great relationships with all employees across the departments here at Bremont and enjoy seeing these people every day! My favourite part of my job is leading Military and Special procurement.

What skills learnt at OMBS have you found most beneficial to you in your position?

I have used most if not every single skill that I learnt an OMBS last year!

I use my IT and professional skills daily, and digital marketing skills help me understand more about what the marketing department need from me. My personal development planning skills and knowledge have been used in my interviews to help me determine where my strengths and weaknesses lie.

I even used the event management skills when I planned the Bremont Christmas Party last year! The skills I learned while at OMBS have been truly invaluable.

How did studying with OMBS help you feel confident about your early career and getting your first role?

Studying at OMBS put me in a great position for the workplace. It taught me many valuable skills that have put me at an advantage over other university graduates who have not learnt practical skills in their degree.

I have also found that the OMBS qualification is a very highly regarded course in the workplace. Having it on my CV gets attention from employers and recruiters.
