At Oxford Media & Business School, we’re always proud to see where our graduates’ careers take them — and Amelia’s journey is a brilliant example of how determination, skill, and confidence can shape a successful career in brand management.
Since graduating from OMBS in 2013, Amelia has built an impressive career in the retail and brand sector, working with some of the biggest names in fashion and beauty. Now a Brand Account Manager at Landsec, her role takes her all over the UK — from London to Leeds and beyond — managing high-profile assets and leading impactful brand strategies.
In this alumni spotlight, Amelia shares her career highlights and what she loves most about her role. She also shares how the professional business skills she developed at OMBS helped her take the first steps into the industry.
What is your current job role title, company name and sector, and where are you working in terms of location?
I graduated from OMBS back in 2013, and am currently a Brand Account Manager for Landsec, based in London. I work from home two days a week and head office for one day a week. At least one day a week I go out visiting assets (retail shopping centres). This includes Portsmouth, Somerset, Oxford, Bluewater, Liverpool, Leeds and lots more!
What are the highlights of your career to date?
I have two! Getting promoted to Retail Manager at Value Retail, where I managed a multimillion-pound portfolio, and where I’m really proud to have worked with some incredible beauty brands while building the beauty category. In my current role as Brand Account Manager at Landsec, I have been able to use my previous experience to support my step up to working across multiple outlets.
What do you love most about your current role or industry sector?
I love the fact that I am working with multiple “best in the business” fashion and beauty brands, and that relationship building is a really important part of my job. Creating and driving strategies that have a real impact on the business is something I am really passionate about.
How did studying with OMBS help you feel confident about your early career and getting your first role?
I wouldn’t have got my first job without OMBS! It was a Team Assistant role that required multiple business skills such as Excel, diary management and email skills. Everyone (including senior members of staff) would ask me to create documents for them as I had expert knowledge across the Microsoft packages. This is how I got to know the retail team, which is then ultimately where I was promoted to, which then started my career in brand management.
What advice would you give an OMBS student?
For me, the Microsoft Office skills are the ones which make you an asset to any business. Advanced knowledge of the packages PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is critical for any business role, and will mean you can take on any business support task easily. I recommend you work hard to develop your skills on these as much as possible!
When it comes to looking for roles whilst working from home can sound appealing, being seen and showcasing your hard work in the office can be more beneficial in the long run though!
