Graduate Career Story: From Oxford Media & Business School to Senior Recruitment Consultant

Recruitment Career Advice

Meet OMBS graduate Flora! After graduating from us in 2013, she jumped straight into the fast-paced world of business support. Today, she’s a Senior Consultant at RMS Recruitment in central London, specialising in office support and executive assistant roles.

We were delighted to catch up with her to hear about her career highlights, why she loves where her career path has taken her, and her advice for early business career success…

Business Career Highlights

“One of the biggest highlights for me is the people. I get to speak with fascinating individuals every day, from high-level executives to incredibly talented job seekers. Nothing beats the buzz of calling a candidate to say, “You got the job!”

A real “full circle” moment in my career was joining RMS Recruitment – the very agency that placed me in my first ever role after OMBS. To now be working with them, helping others launch their careers, is incredibly rewarding (and a bit surreal!).

I’ve also had the opportunity to support some amazing businesses, work closely with inspiring leaders, and help people land roles that genuinely change their lives. That’s pretty special.”

Why Recruitment?

“I really love that no two days are the same. There’s a real energy in recruitment – I’m constantly connecting with new people, understanding their requirements, and guiding them through what can be a nerve-wracking process.

Building long-term relationships and being a trusted voice during their career transitions is what I find most fulfilling…”

Business Skills That Made a Difference

” Studying at Oxford Media & Business School gave me a strong technical foundation, but more than that, it gave me confidence. From professional communication to CV formatting, the professional skills I gained meant I could speak to senior leaders with ease, even in the very early days of my career.

I was thrown into the deep end in my first role – supporting the CEO of an interiors company as an EA – but I felt prepared. Thanks to OMBS, I had the practical skills that made a real difference: minute-taking, interview prep, and crafting a standout CV. Those gave me the edge and helped me to hit the ground running..”

Flora’s Advice For Early Business Career Success

Say yes to opportunities, even if they feel slightly out of your depth – it’s how you grow! Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I would also recommend signing up with a good recruitment firm early on; your consultant can be a fantastic resource for market insight, job hunting tips, and boosting your confidence as you take your first steps into the business world..”
